How did Carface get back into heaven?

At the end of the first movie, he grabbed the clock even though the whippet told him "touch that clock, and you can NEVER come back" - then Carface was shown on his way back to Earth, and Charlie looked at us and said "He'll be back" and winked. Then, obviously, in the second movie, Carface had been in heaven for a while, so he was able to come back.

The only way Charlie was able to come back after messing with the clock is that he ended up turning over a new leaf and sacrificing his life to save Anne Marie, but it doesn't seem like Carface would have done anything similar to readmit him to heaven, given that he was still evil in this movie. So how was he able to come back?
