I saw this movie but forgot what happened to the character Jack. Did he live or die, and if he did die, how?????

Jack got killed. We guess that Janet killed him to keep him quiet. We see him on the second stretcher at the end.
What gets me about the whole ending is, why does everyone keep quiet after the ATF storms the bar? After all the vile things the criminals do to the hostages, why does everyone keep quiet? Especially after Dova makes Janet kill Jack and everything?

The ending was bazaar - I'm thinking Janet did choose to shoot Jack to save herself & Danny - maybe she thought she'd be accountable for murder too if the truth came out - it's hard to imagine that she would clam up over some sense of honor because of any deal they made on the inside. All of Dova's partners were now dead. Dova had her drivers license, but if he was in jail the danger was reduced. Seems unlikely that he could remember her address and hook up with some other jail house sleaze bag to kill her, before she had a chance to move to a new address.
I was actually hoping that she would have taken the gun, but turned and shot Dova instead. I was quite surprized when he strolls out of the bar.
Dova doesn't MAKE Janet kill Jack---- she had a choice to refuse (or to shoot one of the hostage takers, most likely the sociopath, but risk retribution to herself and her son from the one remaining). Both because of legal accountability and her shame she had to keep quiet for her own sake. It was her gunshot that precipitated the police storming the bar--- her haunting question must be what if she had delayed killing Jack by, perhaps, shooting into the air?

Why, when Matt gives her the gun with one bullet in it, doesn't she kill him? After all, she still is in danger, as is her son from this guy, but not from the bar fly.
And would the police just let him walk off into the darkness? I don't think so.

The plot certainly had holes, but it was a good film. The acting and direction were excellent.

She only had one bullet, didn't know a shot would bring the police in, and Law still had the shotgun. If she shot Dova, Law could retaliate and kill her and Danny.
