Heh, I was just watching Alaska and noticed the polar bear who played Cubby was named Agee. Not sure if that's what you were asking.

first of all the was my favorite movie as a kid...but on the subject of polar bears...they do not exist in south-eastern alaska...the regiobn where this movie taskes place!

reply

polar bears do actually travel

reply

are you crazy? do you know how far that is? i don't know the distance in miles but its about the equivalent to the distance from the border of US/Canada to about the the middle of Texas. thats a long way, even for a traveling polar bear. plus you add in the mountain ranges, the vast empty tundra, the cities, towns, roads, glaciers and what ever else. it would be impossible for a polar bear to be in that location naturally.

obviously you didn't grow up in alaska.

reply

yeah that is true. they even said that that was wrong on the goofs.

I am small get over it!

Aggie/Cubbie was by far the best character of the movie. I could watch it over and over again just to see him again. And what beauitful scenery. Makes me want to visit Alaska.

reply

Agree that the scenery is magnificent. To bad for you that movie was filmed in Canada.. So much for Alaska visits.

And Cubby was by far the best character in the movie. He steals every scene he appears in.

reply

Unfortunately the bears were not even real. Look at the cast shown in IMDB. There is one for "Animatronics Bear Cub" and another for "Animatronics Mother Bear". Animatronics = "the construction of robots to look like animals (developed for Disneyland)", according to the dictionary. No wonder Cubby did not scratch off the face of one of the kids in the filming.

Jessie (Thora Birch) looked very cute in the film, though. She was, I think, the best character in the movie.

Hey hungry, your right! The 2 main type of bears in that region are the black and brown. Your also right about the mountain ranges, in fact one of the most offered hunting/picture taking packages in that area involves the mountain goat. Not that you needed the help, but I thought I'd give some added back-up info.

"it would be impossible for a polar bear to be in that location naturally."

I haven't seen it in a while, but I thought the bear was brought down by poachers/smugglers, which explains why they found it down there. Or were you referring to the end, when it's reunited with it's mother, which I thought was way closer to the Arctic??

"He's there, the Phantom of the Opera!!"

reply

That was my nderstanding... Polar bear was poached, then coptered South to poachers camp.
