This film makes me sick...

I physically feel sick when I saw this film, it gave me nightmares when I was like 15... when I saw it when it was first released I liked it... but many years later I hated the donkey part so much and I really felt ill. The physical change... it still makes me wanna hurl everytime I think of it!

The donkey part really creeped me out too when I was little, I don't know why. But it scared the crap out of me.

Exactly.

For years I have thought about this creepy film and now I finally found out the title. Jeesus, is this really supposed to be a children's movie? I saw this numerous times when I was little and still haven't truly recovered (I'm 22).

OMG I thought I was the only one! it's not even just this version, even the disney Pinocchio really worries me. It has ever since I was really little.
This is the worst though, and the donkey part is the worst bit. Shudder.

reply

Hahahahahaha....wow, oh my goodness...Okay I'm done now. So I have NO IDEA how this got that many threads. Crappy cgi effects combined with stop-motion would be one thing to complain about, but I have never heard of anyone afraid of the donkey transformation scene!!! LMAO!!!

I read Collodi's "Pinocchio" when I was 10, and it scared the crap out of me. This is not a children's story! It was written as social satire, and Pinocchio (like his contemporary Huck Finn) is a rebel, who has been described as "one of the great subversives of the written page".

This version is mild, compared to the original, although it is much more faithful to Collodi than the sappy Disney version. If you want to get an idea of the difference, check out this synopsis:

Me too, when i was about 6 or 7 years old i was really frightened and disturbed by this film when it was shown on TV, but when i saw "Scream" which is rated 18 and an R in the UK and USA i wasn't freaked out one little bit and i was the same age. I'm still nervous about buying it, i feel that i want to, but i just can't bring myself to it.

oh my god!! I got this when it came out on video, it would have been when I was around 4, and the donkey scene made me cry, I was scared anyway but I couldn't sleep for weeks without crying, I want to watch it again but I was traumatised, I can't bring myself to watch it.

reply

I hear ya. The transforming donkey head was what made me never watch this movie again - and I only saw it once as a teenager.
