Does anyone know the true story behind this movie?

As far as I know, it was derived--without credit--from the 1979 juvenile thriller THE KIDNAPPING OF CHRISTINA LATTIMORE, by the late Joan Lowery Nixon. Granted, the book is set in Texas rather than Oregon, but...

...It could also be a variation on the Patty Hearst story. Anyhow, those are my best ones.

I am not sure if that is it, since that is from a fictional story and this movie is supposed to be based on a true story.

It might be, they did that thing at the end where they write what happened to each person.

It can't be made from a book because I watched it on the true movies channel and it said it was real.

Many true stories are made into books, which are made into movies. Look at Ann Rule's books, Small Sacrifices, etc. Zodiac was a book by Robert Graysmith, then turned into a movie. Happens all of the time.

This story may have been written about in a book, but I have not found the book yet. It is NOT the one mentioned before.
