I thought this was good. Doesn't matter to me if it did bomb. Too bad because the Charlize Theron/Teri Hatcher catfight was worth the price of admission. Not to say that the rest of the movie wasn't, cause it was.

I'm open! There's just nothing in there!

Many films "bomb" that are good films. You have to remember as the dumbing down of America continues this was a film that you had to pay attention to, it required "thinking".

It has gotten worse in the last few years.

reply

LOL. It required thinking to figure out the predictable plot? If you needed to think a lot to keep up with this movie, I wouldn't be talking about the dumbing down of anyone else.

reply

This movie was many things, but "predictable" is not one of them.

So what? You'd be surprised at how many GOOD films bomb all the time, not because they're no good, but because they either don't get the promotion they need, the studio went through some changes, meaning it got lost in the shuffle,or it didn't have enough "name" stars in it---a whole bunch of reasons.

I remember when this film came out it---I saw a trailer for it only once or twice---I went to a dollar show in a mall on a Friday night after work to see it, only to find out to my surprise that not only THAT particular film, but practically EVERY other film in the theater was literally sold out! I can't ever remember that happening before or since at this particular mall. That was the only place 2 DAYS IN THE VALLEY was playing that I knew of at the time. I rented it out some months later and really enjoyed it. It was one of the first films I'd seen that was clearly influenced by PULP FICTION, and it was pretty good---I don't remember i getting the major push it should have gotten though.

And I was one of the people that saw it in the theater. This was at least in the theater longer than another movie I saw around that time... Mallrats.

Total Tarantino influence is felt in this film, but I don't mind, because out of all the Tarantino rip-offs this one was probably the best. In a way, it was kind of an exciting time in the 90s to see a bunch of indie films getting made after the blockbuster age of the 80s. A lot of the indie films were also getting theatrical releases as well and I must have been one of the few that saw this one at a matinee showing in the middle of a summer afternoon (at least I think it was summer). Interesting cast and not a bad film. Total cult film.

This is .y thought exactly. Many younger people who weren't there but have this superficial nostalgia for the 80s and 90s overlook the Independent music and movie genres that grew and permeated in those days. Those Days are gone.

Hey, not everybody gets great scriptwriting.

Shawshank Redemption is one of the highest rated movies ever, and only made 28.8 million worldwide at the box office, opening to 727K.
