Biased low ratings

Would this movie be rated so low, had any big names like Coen bros or Tarantino been attached to it? A lot of similar movies from the above mentioned figures dont even figure close to this movie in terms of novelty and entertainment...but are still highly rated...not that they are bad movies...but this movie is exceptional and didnt deserve to be so lowly rated. Or are there some other reasons for this movie to be side lined? please forgive my bad english.

I completely agree with you. when this movie first came out I bought a copy of the DVD and everyone that I've shown it to agree that it's a rather good, entertaining movie that has excellent actors that give wonderful performances.

If it would have been attached to Quinton T. or the Coen Bros then they would have had the publicity machine in full operation and the movie would have garnered Golden Globe wins along with Oscar noms for screenplay and even a few acting nods as well in the supporting actor, actresses category.

It was a clever movie with good acting and it was well written and directed by a very talented hand.

I think under these conditions than it should at least be around the 7 to 8.5 range but people are biased guess.

Too bad because with the grade so low I think a lot of people won't give this movie a viewing which is really too bad because they would miss out on Charlize Theron's screen debut along with also seeing her beautiful body and bare breast ( sorry ladies if I offended you but it's the truth).

Fully agree also

I thought the film was frigg'n BRILLIANT! Lots of fun and quite clever; not only that, but I was quite surprised at how well the director even worked in some very effective emotional moments where at least for me it REALLY tugged at my heart for them. VERY rare in this type of film that is usually so intent on it's coolness that it usually does not bother at all with this extra dimension. And I normally do NOT watch films for that reason at all either! I mean even with the Jeff Daniels character, without giving any details away, just those few moments about his son REALLY got me, and he wasn't even a particularly likeable character anyway!

Quite masterful on all fronts in my lowly opinion!

I have over 4000 films, many of them very rare and OOP. I LOVE to trade. PLEASE ASK!

I absolutely LOVE this movie! anyone who rates it low is either pompous, ignorant, or a douche. Fantastic writing, directing, and performances by a great cast! in fact, I think this movie is the high-light in most of the collective casts' careers (except Charlize-she's obviously gone on to do better). I cannot believe I've had this sitting on the shelf for 3-4 years unwatched until now. I HIGHLY recommend this flick to ANYONE who likes crime-dramas and/or comedies. A "pulp Fiction" wanna-be? What studio DIDN'T scramble to do the next PF back then? VERY entertaining on every level.

Now that's an unbiased opinion....

Sorry, ssuujjuu, for many this was a stinker.

And for many it hit the spot; for me, for one. Remember, the majority is almost always wrong.

I agree but Danny Aiello, Paul Mazursky and James Spader aren't quite the high profile cast of men that Tarantino casts or that the kiddies love watching. And they weren't glorified the way Tarantino does with his characters. People eat up style over substance whether they know it or not.

The Coen brothers are more for adults than Tarantino is, in my opinion. I bet their fan demographic reflects that.

I just came in here Im shocked its just 6.5

reply

I gave it an 8.
Great acting, some comedy.
Multiple plot threads that all weave together in the end.
And Teri Hatcher.
And Charlize Theron.

I liked this movie but I feel 6.5 is fair
