Why is this film so poorly rated?

I read that this movie seems to be poorly received by critics and I don't really understand why. It's brilliantly acted, the animal scenes are amazing and it's got some genuinely funny jokes in it. What more could you want?

Glenn Close was fantastic as Cruella and the supporting cast are equally as good. Apparently the film's main criticism is the overuse of slapstick but I didn't think it was overkill at all. Plus the electric fence scene was funny as heck.

I know some people were bothered about Roger being an American but it never bothered me as a child and still doesn't.

Anyone else feel this way?
