this vs. cartoon original

I gotta say the original cartoon is way better, I wouldn't call this total junk, it has some funny parts, but there's stuff so crazy in the first one it can only be truly captured in cartoon form

I don't know... it's a tie for me. Yes there is so much you can get from a cartoon, but this one's pretty funny as well...

I liked the cartoon better...the live action 101 Dalmations was one of the few movies ever to give me nightmares as a younger person. =/

I posted this on another thread, but will repeat it here just for emphasis: I grew up with the animated version and this movie - while an accurate remake - is PURE GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't say the cartoon is WAY better, but I do like it better than this one. I don't think anyone could ever portray the role of Cruella DeVil quite like Glenn Close; however, there were times when she says some of the lines that were carried over from the cartoon that I felt the cartoon Cruella was better.

Nothing can beat the original. It was so good.

I like the movie better

This is well worth watching, but the original animated film is better for me. I felt it had more charm and poignancy. Glenn Close as Cruella DeVil in this film is great though, she alone makes the movie worth the look.

Remakes don't often beat the original, and this one sure doesn't; but as far as remakes go, it's not a bad one at all. I like how it kind of does its own thing whilst still be true to the spirit of the animated film.

Disney could have done awful things with a live-action remake. I half expected talking dogs (I think Homeward Bound was out at this time), extremely cheezy villains, etc. Instead, I got a fresh tale about a crazy woman who is so obsessed with getting that fur coat that she'll go murdering puppies. For the most part, if left out the things from animation that just don't translate well into live-action, yet kept it from being horribly contrived and boring.

Honestly, Disney did a good job with this. It could've been really awful, but instead is a great stand-alone film.

I'm going to elaborate:

The dogs: I almost like the dogs equally in both films, but I do admire the live-action ones just a bit more. Not because I can go from watching videos about black holes to puppies within 30 minutes on Youtube, but because Dalmatians are a breed that's difficult to train, at least my my experience. I'm amazed that they got these dogs to do all that stuff. If this movie were made nowadays, you know that half those dogs would be entirely CG.

Roger: I like the animated version better. I do get a kick out of how they updated his profession (as a gamer, I greatly appreciated the computer game based off of Roger's game that came out - I still have it!), but I love his personality more in the animated film. He was easily my least favorite character in the live action film.

Anita: I like her better in the live-action film. She didn't have much to do in the animated film. The character isn't horribly progressive in either film, but she has a lot more to do in the remake.

Cruella: I honest can't say. I love her descent into madness in the original, but Glenn Close plays her perfectly - grounded in reality, yet with a real evil that sets her apart from the other characters.

Original, the main reason being that the dogs talk. They are the main characters, after all.

the original 101 Dalmatians is a masterpiece of epic proportions. The live one, not so much.

I think they are both good films, but I prefer the animated one.
