shareHugh Grant was not available, and you know quite well that variant casting choices happen all the time in movieland. How do you think Americans felt when Vivian Leigh was chosen to play Scarlett O'Hara? That was a great big, huge controversy. Roger's character was changed to accomodate his American accent for whatever reason, so that might tik purists off but these things do happen.
