R.I.P. Steve Jobs

This documentary was the first time I got to know anything about Steve Jobs.

R.I.P. Steve

Me too. I just love the part when he says that he got a good look at Xerox's GUI and decided to steal it for his computer. That has to be one of the greatest corporate blunders Xerox or any other company ever did.

I also like the part where he states that Microsoft makes ugly products. He was right, and to this day.

What about the part where Bill Gates refers the 2 IBMers to another company (I think Intergalactic digital corporation) and the secretary blows them off and the IBMers come back to Bill. Talk about losing a zillion dollar deal. Bill Gates was lucky that they came back to him.

Besides that, there was a guy in the beginning days of Apple. He was #3. They offered him 10% in shares. He accepted but after a while he left and gave up his 10% for free, which today is worth over 3 billion. Quite a few people wanted to be payed in money instead of shares.

What's even better is the story about how after Jobs saw Triumph on TV, he called Bill Gates to apologize. It's in the bonus section of the Steve Jobs: The Lost Interview DVD, Andy Hertzfeld tells it. It went something like this:

Gates: "Hello?"

Jobs: "Hey Bill, Steve Jobs here. I just saw the documentary and I thought I should call and apologize for saying you have no taste. I shouldn't have said that publicly."

Gates: "Well, I appreciate that Steve, because yeah, I thought that was really uncalled for."

Jobs: "Yeah, but it's true! You have no taste!"

Gates: "I may have no taste, but that doesn't mean my entire company has no taste!"

Have you seen Windows 8? What a disaster. Sales are so poor that Microsoft lowered the price from 120$ to 30$.
Office 2013 is also getting a price cut ==> 30$.

But I don't blame them. There comes a time when something is good enough and there is no more need for change.

The future is cellphones, smartphones and buttphones.
