I wasn't watching this movie very closely because i had already seen the big movie that had come out in the theatres in '98, but i admit i was rather shocked to see the rape scene in this Titanic movie. I wonder if that kind of violence really did happen on the real Titanic? I still remember some of the lines before, during and after that particular scene.

"That kind of violence" is older than history, and it can occur anywhere at any era. Take a spin through some small rural newspapers from the late 1800s and not only do you find out murder and rape happened, but it wasn't all that uncommon. I was gobsmacked at the pedophilia, abuse, murder, and overall nastiness that happened in "the good old days."

That a rape might have occurred on a ship teeming with people is not that much of a stretch. Our vision of the good old days is so white-washed from what it really was.

I find it interesting that your post seems to be the only one this board, asking if this was a real event or not...

That's what I was wanting to know, and why I came here.

This is the only Titanic story/film where I ever heard of such a thing.

Obviously it could have been possible back then...and maybe it did happen. Much of these Titanic Stories/Films seem to be about guessing what the people who died in the sinking actually did during the Voyage. So something like this may have happened with some of the victims. Especially since I understand the ship was well known to focus on the ship, mostly having "Community" bathrooms for most on board, which I am sure were not locked...

But did it? Was the scene based on a report from one of the survivors?

If not, The producers of the film should go to hell for disrespecting the victims of the tragedy! I can't believe they would even consider doing this. Even talking about "Ratings", Most folks would not even consider stepping over that line...

As it was pointed out already, Tim Curry's character was already established as a bad guy. There was no need for such filth to be added to a story involving one of the saddest tragedies in our history.

Simply put, of the few posts on this subject, you are the only one who answered this question gracefully and accurately. However, in real life, concerning vile acts such as rape, there is NO way that he could have penetrated her (without her help), while in the positions both were in; but "Hollywood films" wouldn't be "Hollywood films," without Sexual and other vile acts, even if they don't film them correctly. I personally believe that the "Tim Curry" character ruined this otherwise fairly good film. I hated the rape scene of Osa, but truly liked this version of the Titanic tragedy better than the newer version. By the way, we have a Shiba Inu (dog) that was named, "Osa." Warm regards!

Tim Curry did play Dr. Frank-N-Furter. And Frank-N-Furter had everyone.
