Why did it finish after a season?

Hi all,

I caught a taped episode of Sweat the other day and it's awesome. Can anyone tell me if it was hugely popular when it came out? Why did it finish after one season? Was it axed or cancelled? What's the story??

reply

Was there only one season?
I remember loving it.
I don't think it rated that well.
I think it was on in an unusual timeslot?! I always remeber watching tapes of it!

Which network showed "Sweat" and what was the timeslot ?

reply

I think it was 10? And I don't remember what time it was!

it was in the uk on a station called trouble, and they always seemed to put it on in the day with "point break" so i doubtr it really pulled in the ratings here either, but i loved it.

The ABC showed it in Australia. It was on during the day. 1pm maybe?

I think it was given the flick because it was based on athletes and their sports. Being a cyclist at the time, and being embarrassed by the way they "raced" a bike race, I can see why it was cancelled.

What do you mean by "the way they raced?" Was it not authentic enough?

Chanel 10 originally commissioned 13 episodes (or 26 half hours) of the series, which is pretty normal for a first season.

they thought it would be a hit with Sydney leading up to the olympics, but they put it in a crappy timeslot of 5.30pm saturdays and it didn't rate well enough to commission a 2nd series.

and on top of that we were left with a cliff hanger episode that was never resolved!
