Steve Wasnt too Great...

There was just something so damned unappealing about Steve's character and persona. Even when he was being genuine I just couldnt buy it, he was so damned unlikeable.

"You win some, you lose some. But you live, you live to fight another day."

reply

yes and no. If this was based off a real teacher and person yea I can see him being unlikable but it being a character in the show makes him funny. Here is this grouchy, self centered guy who fell from grace and now he has to teach a bunch of kids that he clearly doesn't have patients for (he doesn't have any of his own) so it's funny. The things he says to them is our right mean, especially calling Regina piggy but once again...sitcom so it's ok

I wish I can go back in time and pinch those chubby little cheeks and tell you nothing will be ok.

reply

Okay, but what did you want, a Huxtable? We can't all have characters that are nice. Where is the fun in that? He appeared to be grouchy, but that grouchy exterior masked a sweet personality. He did have some very good qualities.

Steve Hightower;

On his first day helped Romeo make up with Sophia when he didn't get her a gift(he did have a good reason).

Got Bullethead out of jail when Bullethead tried to break into a dog pound to save his dog, and I think he got Bullethead a job.

Let Cedric live with him, even though Cedric moved in without asking.

Hooked Romeo up with a suit for the homecomeing dance.

Convinced Romeo's father to let him stay in school when he wanted to enroll his son in vocational training classes.

Led the teen feminist group when Regina had other business to attend to, and gave very good advice, encouraging them to stand up for themselves and not sell themselves cheap.

These are just some of the good things he did.

@ ItsEddieHaskellBeyotch, Steve was unappealing? You didn't believe Steve was genuine? With all the good things he did, sometimes even going beyond the call of duty? Opening up his home to ungrateful people who didn't respect him at all? I think at times Steve was too nice. I wouldn't not have been angry if he had kicked certain people out of his home and out of his life. I wouldn't have gave him wrong if he cursed them out and told them where to go.

Regina;

continously accused him of being jealous whenever he was just looking out for her, even though he was there for here when she killed her husband.

Was very rude to him on the first day, all because of stuff that he said YEARS AGO, WHEN THEY WERE KIDS. She was so unprofessional at times.

Ignored his school proposal, even though it was a very good one, just because it was Steve's. Then got mad at him for having another woman in his apartment, even though they weren't a couple. She did this a lot throughout the series until they actually got together.

Would go off on him without giving him a chance to explain or defend himself.

Was overly competitive, to the point of being domineering, overbearing, and would do anything to win. She was also a sore loser. When Steve beat her at Scrabble, she couldn't take it, so she cheated in the next game. Was not a graceful winner either.

Had the most annoying sound when she cried, acting like a big baby.

But even though he was not not necessarily a bad person, and it is only a sitcom, I do agree that his character did need a little bit of polishing up. I mean he shouldn't have;

referred to the girls in the teen feminist group as fast little heifers(that was one of the sore spots in the show. That ain't that damn funny).

referred to the old tenants in the building as shrivelled up old geezers.

tried to blow off his Little Brother Vincent for a night with Regina,

then get mad because Vincent didn't tell him about the Bulls tickets (I mean what are you really doing? Do you really care about spending quality time with your Little Brother, or do you just want to see the Bulls? The former, should be your main objective is a Big Brother, no?)

made fun of Lovita when she showed up in the maternity outfit. (She's pregnant, you jerk!)

had a chauvinistic attitude earlier in the series.

pretended to be blind to impress a woman on one occasion.

pretended to be widower to impress another on another occasion.

reply

Its just TV that is what made it funny. He did do some great things for those students and deep down he really did care for those students he just had a funny way of showing it.

@temperamint-1, you have to admit that the first one was funny! ("referred to the girls in the teen feminist group as fast little heifers") I laughed out loud when I read that...

There were some moments when he was funny. I mean, he was a funny looking dude in the first place, and the fact that he thought he was so "fine" was hilarious. He and Cedric were funny together. They just seem to know each other so well that they could just roll with each other and have the audience rolling with them.

Cause Steve Harvey is as FAKE as Oprah Winfrey, Star Jones, Dr Phil, cast if the View, Maury povich, Jerry springer, and so on. And I read somewhere that the load was a racist..
