Usagi:The first leading character that can be easily replaced.

Ok,I have heard things like this before...

"But she is the main character...all the things happen to her...she is the princess...she has a good heart...she is sweet..."

There are a lot of Characters with the same behavior in SM.So,I find Usagi is not all that important or cool.Someone else could be a better lead character than her.

She is so weak, dumb and dependent! She cannot play sports...she cannot fight...she cannot stay alone sometimes...she cannot say anything that really is worth...she cannot defend her self from anything, even from harsh words or behavior...she cannot control her life...dude,Can this girl do something by herself??!!

I used to like Usagi in the first season. She was very funny and silly. She never had that 'force' to be a major character (like Yusuke Urameshi from YYH or Lucy from Rayearth),but she was somewhat interesting. But since Season 2,she has been fallen miserably...now she is too boring and lady-like,she can't even walk in the streets without be tied to mamoru's arm.She became just a plain and pathetic girl.

"She wins over the villains in the end"-ok,but after everyone has made the dirty work,it is easy for you to catch up and get the credit for all.She talks too much about love and about how much she likes eating cake. She looks like a retard sometimes...her love scenes with Mamoru are too mellow-dramatic...they love each other...ok,we all know about this already! They don't need to 'die' for each other in every episode...

Sailormoon suffers from a lack of something new...a stronger lead female character, for example.Because male,we have many:the villains (specially prince Demando, his brother Saffiru and that three guys from Dead Moon Circus) and a very enchanting hero:Seiya Kou.I also agree with Usagi/Mamoru fans, when they say Seiya is not the one for her:Fighter deserves someone better, special, like him.

Wanna examples of how a better leading lady would make difference for the story, turning It more creative, dinamic and deep?

1.Ami Mizuno
2.Hotaru Tomoe
3.Minako Aino
4.Sailor Galáxia (She could be a terrific anti-heroine type!)

If Usagi was a secundary character,I bet she would be liked, but not as much as she is just because she is a good girl who is in love with the same guy forever just because she is destined to be a queen.Because, guys, that is all her life is intended to be.

I really, really like Usagi the way she is now. In fact, she's probably my favorite anime heroine as of now. ^^'

reply

Yeah, adriana. Leave Usagi alone. She is a very nice and honest girl.

But I do agree with you on some point: if she was not the main character the story would have been very different. I like Usagi, but I wouldn't mind if Ami or the hilarious Minako would have been the main characters. Or even better: Haruka( It would for sure be interesting )!

But then again, I think you are going to much into speculation. This anime is fine the way it is. Changing the main character is something of a too radical idea...

I've always ranted that Ami would've made a far better lead to anyone who'd listen.

Usagi's just a standard underachiever who gets by on being thick as two short planks with a brick inbetween, but having blonde hair and blue eyes, and the fact that destiny gave her all the luck.

Let's be honest - if she hadn't been destined for the job, would you honestly choose her for it?

Once she grows out of that insufferable "Me! Me! Me!" attitude of the first two seasons, she's a bit more bearable, and she does go through a lot of self-realisation in the fifth season; but she's still the sort of heroine that's a dime a dozen, and not all that interesting, anyway.

Let's take Ami, on the other hand. Not only is she painfully shy, but she's always had her life organised. She knows what she wants to do, when she wants to do it, and every minute of her spare time is spent working on how she'll get there.

Can you imagine how a character like that would react to not only becoming a leader figure, but also having her medical school ambitions knocked for six by the whole world suddenly becoming her patient? She'd have some major thinking and lifestyle juggling to do.

There're far too few mainstream stories in the genre (that make it to the West, anyway) that actually focus on anything other than Usagi-esque airheads. It'd be nice to see a geek get some positive press and the spotlight for once.

Hotaru would have much the same problem - especiaslly depending on whether or not the events of S happened in the same fashion. Haruka never even wanted to be a senshi, let alone anything more (to say nothing of her pragmatic attitude or the obvious problem with her and Mamoru getting together). And Galaxia as an anti-heroine (bring back the Animamates as her sentai! :)) would be a great story - especially if you set it during the wars.

But Usagi's just bland.

(And I always thought that Ami and Mamoru would've made a better couple anyway - but that's just me.)

Usagi's NOT bland at all. She's also bearable throughout all the series to me.

reply

She is boring, man.Just plain and incredibly boring.Besides,a lot of SM characters are nice and honest as well.
She is dumb and weak.

reply

She got even worse.

Does what you said just make her the more surprising about being the main character/princess?

Yes...and the poorest too.

One point I've occasionally been rebuffed with is that Usagi is the only member of the inner group who's yet to find a role or focus. I can't say that I think it makes her any more interesting (since even finding a role involves swapping one established set of behaviours for another), but I'll at least agree with it.

Yes she was a little annoying and maybe she should or could have been replaced but it would have changed the show we all love so much and does anyone want that. I know I don't.

There will come a day, somewhere far away in your arms I'll stay my only love.

How could you diss USAGI!? Usagi is the cuttest thing ever drawn! If you were to replace her you could at least say that Michiru could lead. She's beautiful, kind and very powerful!

reply

Usagi is plain, dumb and that 'power' of hers is nothing. She is ridiculous.Michiru is much cooler,I adore her.

reply

I see! I'm glad you like NEPTUNE, she's GORGEOUS!

reply

I like all of them, minus Usagi,Chibi-Usa and Makoto.Tuxedo Mask also sucks,in my opinion.

I am sure you are wrong about one little thing:It's not truth everybody likes her.The story is completelly diferente, nobody can stand her.The only diference is they don't bash her like I do.
Ok,I agree,we all want to enjoy life...but that is a too weak plot for a TV show.

Are you kidding me? thats why Sailor Moon/Usagi is the main leader! it shows that even if she is a crybaby, a whiner and has her biggest flaws she is still capable of maturing and achieve being the leader of the group. She cares about her friends and she actually matures quite a bit in this series. I mean thats why the title of this whole series is called "Sailor Moon." She's not perfect, but she is a very loyal and a caring friend. She chose not to fight Galaxia because she wanted peace instead of killing everyone out of the world. Sure, she's not strong, but it shows she really does love her planet. Besides Usagi has a unique look and status for a main character/leader. I've never seen much characters with blonde odangos or quite a leader like her that is a ditz but later changes into something she's destined to be.

reply

I like the way she has matured, it gives the story a deeper meaning.

Am I not good enough-Seiya Kou

reply

She is just too irritating! She is not mature, and the story is cool, but not deep.

reply

Oh speak for yourself. You don't get the series.

reply

I agree with you, but I think Usagi is strong. Not the strongest person in the world, but she's strong enough to be able to save a planet.

reply

your a hater

reply

Uhhh no! I love Usagi and Sailor Moon is based on her and replacing her would change the whole story which be a no..Just no! I love the way the story is. She is what makes Sailor Moon so popular today.

I read somewhere about the order of the Sailor team. If something happens to the leader then they will be the next one in command.

1. Usagi
2. Minako
3. Rei

and then it goes to either Makoto or Ami.

Hotaru, Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna likes to do their own thing so a whole new series about them would be super interesting! I would love to see that! In their group..I would love to see Setsuna as the leader. It's really interesting to see how the most powerfulest of the Sailors are the oldest and youngest member of the group. They control time and death!
