American Psycho?

I recently watched the film American Psycho and it reminded me of Profit. Unfortunately for me, the only thing I can really remember about this TV show is that I liked it and it was cancelled because it was actually quality television.
My question to you is this: Could one say that American Psycho is based on, ripped off, or inspired by this show? Or did I simply make the mental connection because of two strong-willed, ruthless characters that otherwise have nothing in common?

They are definitely similar characters but it would have to be the other way around. American Psycho is based off the book of the same name that was published in 1991. 5 years before this show aired. Funny thing is I don't remember much about this show but I remember it was good also. I remember he slept with his stepmother and he slept in a box or something but I don't remember much after that.

It's a testament that there is an active message board on a show that aired 8 episodes 12 years ago. It goes to show you that Fox definitely blew it when they prematurely canceled this.

all 9 episodes is out on dvd and it was f#%$ing good..whew, email me for more info if you know what i mean.

Same with me, I have a very vague memory of this show. They showed it here in the Philippines but I never found it controversial, I also never considered Profit to be a villain or psychopath, just Machiavellian. The only thing I remember are:

-Adrian Pasdar
-suits and the corporate world
-he slept in a box
-he was cunning and ruthless like Michael Corleone

In the first episode of Profit, there is scene near the start of Profit walking in his underwear around his apartment. American Psycho also begins with a scene like this. This, and some other small scenes, make me wonder if the person in charge of cinematography for the film took was inspired by watching this TV show.

Yeah that part signaled to me that they were def inspired by the book.
