No guns?

I thought it was weird to see Tennison go chasing after the bad guy with no weapon. What was she going to do when she confronts the madman? I noticed that throughout the series, none of the cops are ever seen carrying guns. Is that some sort of Brit rule?

reply

British Police don't carry guns as a rule. They are only used in exceptional circumstances. SWAT type teams were use in several Prime Suspect episodes.

I get the no guns rule, but don't UK police officers use some sort of weapon to defend themselves? After all, if I were an officer chasing someone with a knife or a baseball bat, I wouldn't want to go into a dangerous situation without some means of defense.

In the last couple of years, some British Police Officers have a Taser in addition to their Truncheon.

come on mate - there are no guns in England - they're illegal.

reply

No, they are licensed and restricted, especially handguns and assault weapons. There are plenty of shotguns, especially in rural areas.

Armed Response teams are called in for these kind of situations.

You'd be surprised how many Americans believe that this is the only developed country that allows gun ownership.

Steven Mackintosh and his Bravo performance as The Street is comparable to Al Pacino as Tony Montana,Erroll Flynn as General George Custer or Marlon Brando as Don Corleone.
No adjectives can do justice to Steven.
