Had piece to do an American verison of. It would be a completely different story in America. The general premise could be followed, but other than that I don't think just redoing would work - and it would pain me to see someone try and I think it would need unknowns in most of the parts (and all the main parts) for it to work, as well as the mini-series format that can't hold a prime slot, and which the adverts don't like.
As far as a copy, get a EU DVD player and pick it up on amazon.co.uk
