Well, the writers would have had to change things. They used the fact that the other SIUs were on the water for storylines like dumping people in the water.

If they hadn't moved, we wouldn't have been treated to the wonderful ep where the the SIU was tilting and that anchor swings by, nearly hitting that woman who had a thing for Nash and also thought she was an alien from another planet, and Nash says, "Okay, that's it. Abandon ship.".
Catch ya on the flip side.

that was a classic.

His name...was Julio Iglesias!

Man, that shook her up.

I feel an Iceman/Top Gun line popping into my head.

For one thing, the show could not have been filmed all 6 seasons at the rotunda since it was really the new main branch of the San Francisco Public Library being built at the time. I think the library opened some time in 1996. You can see the same rotunda as the library in the film "City of Angels" with Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan.

Nope, The Rotunda Was The City Hall Building in Oakland Ca.

Just found this on a unoffical website about the building in which season 1 of Nash Bridges was filmed at:

The building used for Police Headquarters for the Special Investigations Unit on NASH BRIDGES is not located in San Francisco, but across the SF Bay in Oakland. The dome is the ceiling to the Oakland Rotunda Building at 16th and Telegraph Streets. The beautiful dome ceiling was seen at the beginning of almost every episode in season 1.

The Rotunda Building was heavily damaged during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, and was closed for renovations. The building was sealed off and unoccupied .

The Oakland City Hall and the Mayor's Office inside has also been used by the NASH BRIDGES production.

My understanding is it was much cheaper to film on the two barges used in the remaining seasons and it also provided a much better backdrop.
