Tie ins to Miami Vice?

Not PMT's guest roles.

I mean as a rabid Vice fan, will I enjoy this show as a remote continuance?

What other show would you compare this too? How much comedic element is there?

Those foolish enough to move from canada to america increase the average I.Q. of both countries

"Nash Bridges" moves faster than "Miami Vice", most especially after the first couple seasons. It doesn't have time to breath as MV did.
In the last couple seasons, edits were noticable where they just simply ended a scene too soon, trying to fit too much character stories into one 47 minute chunk. So in that respect it's not the same, so if you liked the slower pace of MV, you might be a little disappointed.

As each season passed, Don Johnson's ego just sort of took over, to the point the show was pretty much Nash-centered, though a couple other characters got some time more than others. In fact, as a producer on the show, you can tell he was tooling the whole thing, from the look, style, plotting, pace, and even change in the show's popular composer (Eddie Jobson, whom in turn took over from Elia Cmiral; Velton Ray Bunch was the final composer).
This is a stark contrast to MV which allowed the look and style to drive the cast, rather than the cast to drive it as in NB. The difference is that NB tries and becomes noticable, whereas MV just "works". You never question Sunny's pastel shirts, but you wonder about Nash's overly fancy suits.
NB is far more styled and if you get used to it, you find it appreciable. It all comes together in a weird way. But it'll be different from what you expect on MV.

MV had dramatic plots, scenes lead by songs or music score as montages, just looks that stay with you. NB tries too hard to fit songs in, especially later --trying tomimic the success of MV, no doubt when ratings weren't waht they were hoping. The sets are purposefully done to get your attention; Nash living in a condemned upper floor apartment with service elevator. Later on the HQ being in a boat. Oddball camera angels, etc. The scoring, while it worked for the msot part, especially during Eddie Jobson's reign, is different. Jobson, for instance, would use lots of hand percussion, and didgeridoo. Why the Australian didgeridoo? Can't say. But except for a handful or so instances -- that I remember -- the scoring never gets the chances to shine as in MV.
So, music and appearence wise both shows are not the same.

Apart from a couple characters, most everybody else on NB lacks the character depth and history seen on MV. Its sort of like comparring the the deep, cultured characters on "Star Trek: The Next Generation", to those on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" -- if you watched both, then you get it. If you're a D.S.9. nut, then you're pissed off from reading this.

Switek and the NB character Harvey Leak, are like distant brothers. Both characters are likable, but Leak gets more chances to shine to Switek (as I recall), so there's more to like.
In MV, Switek made the comment:
"You ever notice how fetching Betty and Veronica look in mini-skirts?"
You can EASILY hear Leak saying that. In fact, it would have been a fantastic nod had they re-used that line.

I really couldn't say what I would compare NB to. It's too different looking in combo with the direction.

Here's a couple clips from the show that can give you a somewhat good idea of it:

Yea DS9 is just more true to life for most Trekies.
Oh Tasa Yar is dead, let's never talk about her again ( until she makes a guest app.)
That's how it worked in your life right- someone close to you dies and a week later it's not brought up any more? Yea Deep Space 9 is the lesser show.

"Tie ins" refers to connections, like casting. Martin Ferrero and Phillip Michael Thomas made appearances on "Nash Bridges".

Just watched the one with Martin Ferrero. In comparison to Vice, that man was a hot dog here - a real bada**.

Yep, and John Diehl who played Zito for the first three seasons on Vice also made an appearance in Season 2's "Counterfeiters" on Nash Bridges.
