shareThe song is a rather jazzy rendition of Bette Midler's "Do You Want To Dance". The original sounds quite, quite different as it is much slower and very tender. I don't know who did the version used on the show.
If you like the song, check out the Doogie Howser MD episode "It Ain't Over Till Mrs. Howser Sings", which features two versions. A secretary sings a jazzy version and Mrs. Howser sings a version highly similar to the original at the very end.

shareActually, the original is from 1958, written and recorded by Bobby Freeman, and was also released by the Beach Boys in 1965. The original is the upbeat, pop version; Bette's is a remake.
