Moesha sequel/spinoff in the works?

http://uptownmagazine.com/2013/12/new-moesha-spin-off-brandy-tyler-per ry/

So this has been floating around since late last year but this is the first time I've see it. Apparently Brandy is teaming up with Tyler Perry to do a sequel to Moesha, with William Allen and Sheryl Lee Ralph on board to reprise their roles as Frank and Dee.

Anyone think there's truth to this?

reply

Brandy said in a backstage interview for Queen latifah's talk show that she's open to the idea but because both Lamont Bentley (Hakeem) and Yvette Wilson (Andell) have passed away, it would be difficult

I missed Brandy on Queen Latifah I was at work. I saw clips of her on youtube on the show I didn't see that clip of her talking about Moesha. Wow a spinoff of Moesha and Tyler Perry writing it....I don't think so like the above poster said two of the cast members are gone so it wouldn't be the same.

I would love to have a Moesha reboot, or at least a 1 or 2 hour movie. It wouldn't be the same without Hakeem but his death can be incorporated into the show. Like someone mentioned, they can go back to the cliff hanger and make Moesha pregnant with Hakeem's child and have the show be about Mo being a single parent raising a child much like how the original show was about Frank being a single parent after losing his wife and then meeting and marrying Dee.

As far as Yvette, while she was an original on the show. When the kids graduated high school and started college the writers phased her out of the show(which I now know is because YW asked to be written out because of the Frank/Dorian storyline) by having her sell The Den. Hakeem was more a central character than Andell.

Ummm I love this show a lot but no I don't want a spin off/sequel. Seems like the in thing to do these days is remake old stuff

reply

I don't like the idea of remakes, but if they actually go through with this, I'd like to see it.

Brandy has been hinting a lot lately about doing her own sitcom again and about something already being in the works so a possible Moesha reboot wouldn't completely surprise me. Personally I would love to see a continuation of Moesha's life since we never really received a proper finale. Yes, it'll be different but it wouldn't be a remake but rather a continuation kinda like What's Happening evolving into What's Happening Now. It'll be sad not having Hakeem and Andell but their deaths can be incorporated into the storyline and it can be done respectfully and in honor of their memory. Plus, it could give the new show some great storyline. Let's say Moesha was pregnant and she and Hakeem had a child together and got married then had another kid or two then Hakeem died. It could focus on Moesha being a single mom and Frank and Dee helping her out. It could have a lot of heart and be funny too.

Guys, it wouldn't be a reboot, it would be a sequel...when Lamont and Yvette died I was pretty sure a new series was out of the question so I was surprised that this rumor had any traction.

But like rodcenray said, I can see them working the deaths into the storyline, with Moesha being pregnant in the finale. The series would end up being a reverse situation of Moesha but with Mo as a single parent and her son/daughter coping with the death of a father instead of a mother. Hakeem's presence would always be felt that way.

That sound like a great storyline and that i might work. Just explain everything in the pilot episode.

they should have resolved it on the parkers when they had the chance

The parkers went on for 3 more years after Moesha ended. They had every chance to do something and didn't

After Moesha Ended, other than Yvette Wilson/Andell being a permanent cast member, we saw just one appearance from hakeem in 2002 during that vegas road trip episode

They could have brought it up in that episode and never did

I guess it was best felt the parkers and moesha storyline were kept separate but I agree there should have been closure on the parkers at least.
