Pretty blond in last scene
Who is the pretty blond young lady who exchanges glances with Woodrow Call in the last scene in the store and then in the street?
Also, why do the Indians call Woodrow "Gun in the Water?"

The pretty blonde is Maggie....the young whore he was with in the first half of the movie.
They call him that because he was in the water when he shot the indian chiefs son.
Did I miss something? Woodrow was with a prostitute in "Dead Man's Walk?"
Thanks for your answer.
Yeah, just before they leave for Santa Fe, it shows him getting dressed while she's sitting in the bed. He says something to her about if he doesn't come back, I forget what exactly and says her name, Maggie.
Which should sound familiar if you've seen Lonesome Dove, she's not in it but she's mentioned as being the only woman Call ever loved.

Yes, that's Maggie Woodrow was with, and we know from "Lonsome Dove" that she will be Newts mother (and Woodrows son though he never admits it).
shareThe Girl playing her is Grechen Moll. She not only looks good but she can really act. She played Bette Page in the Movie.Worth seeing!
shareIn the book, Call was crossing the river. The water was deep and Call had his gun above the water and shot Buffalo Hump's son while he was making it across.
In the book it was much more dramatic to have a gun ready while making it across the river.
The movie must have found it a problem when the water was not very deep, so they must have had the rangers fishing instead of crossing. Not very notable to fish with your gun in you holster as aposed to crossing the water with your gun above the water and shooting in time to kill Hump's son.
