Question about Buffalo Hump

*MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS....I would imagine most have seen it but just in case!*

It's been quite a while since I watched this and I happened to catch the last part on tv last night. I am a big fan of Eric Schweig, and I thought he was fantastic as Buffalo Hump. The question I have is about the girl he takes captive towards the end of the movie. We see him trade her then go back and kill the traders and free her. But in the scene following that I don't see her. Did he kill her too? Does the book say? I looked at the back of the line of horses as they are leaving and it seems like the last Indian is leading a horse but the scene goes so quickly that I can't really tell for sure. I don't know why I'm curious but if anyone can tell me what happened to the girl that would be great!

reply

The girl was not killed.. she was taken captive or as his new wife. It was probably just a goof.

reply

The book Comanche Moon explains it...if I recall correctly, he took her as a wife...Blue duck was their son, I believe.

reply

she was taken as one of his wives, and yes, blue duck was their son. he was half-mexican, if you recall. don't miss "comanche moon" in 2 weeks!!

reply

Comanche Moon speaks of Buffalo Hump taking many women over the years for the purposes of slave trade. Although Blue Duck is in fact half Mexican and half Comanche, I don't believe their is anything in Dead Mans Walk that suggest that this particular woman is his mother.

reply

She was Blue Duck's mother. That was the whole point of showing those parts of the movie. To lead up to Comanche Moon.

reply

Yes, they didn't explain it much in Dead Man's Walk.

As said before she is Blue Duck's mother. Also not explained is she froze to death while trying to escape.

The books are fantastic and worth reading if you want more than the movie has to offer.
