This should get a reboot

With today's vampire obsession, this show would've been pretty popular. An update produced for FX with heavy emphasis on the clan politics and the 'mafia' aspect of it all would be a pretty kickass show.

Always thought this show had huge potential.

I am sooo pleased to have found a site still active with KINDRED:"THE EMBRACED". On another site (click onto MSN & type kindred:the embraced) & you will find another wonderful site dedicated to this wonderful show. I emailed the webmaster, Bev & she told me that this SPELLING PRODUCTION was sold to SHOWTIME at one time. There is so much written material left & was planned for in the future. Then the horrible, untimely death of MARK FRANKEL. I mourned when I found out about MARK'S death maybe 10yrs later. In an interview which MARK FRANKEL gave (you can still read it online), Mark looked forward to another season. He said that the cast read a VAMPIRE book & treasured it as their VAMP BIBLE. So with all the old shows coming back with remakes, why hasn't KINDRED: THE EMBRACED brought back to the small screen? I wrote many networks, including SHOWTIME, SYFY, FOX, asking them to consider making all new episodes. We need more people writing the networks. Vampires are FOREVER popular. Now the remake of the 1987 series V. I say that KINDRED will be a hit. LONG LIVE THE KINDRED.

Part of me is conflicted about a remake. The reason why I wouldn't want this show to be done is because of mark's death. The show was good but mark had that it factor that made the show work. You had a lot of people who even if they never played the game or heard of it, watching this show because of him and probably C Thomas Howell. Okay and maybe the storyline. The problem with remakes is that it will always be in the shadow of the original unless the writers and directors step up their game and even then who's to say if people will even like it.

I could see the storylines improving and the effects. But any actor who plays Julian's part gotta bring it, unless it's a whole new story with new characters.

As for the V remake, I hate it. There wasn't any conclusion to the original. They should have least tried to end that one first. I watched 90210 for the 1st season but then got bored. I didn't even bother with Melrose Place. Certain shows just can't be remade.

If I wanted to kill my husband,I'd do it and I wouldn't get caught. I'd scare him to death.

reply

Hi. I agree that MOST remakes do not even surpass or compliment the original. All I know is that whenever the KINDRED airs on SYFY, CHILLER, or another network, it is well received. I also agree that MARK FRANKEL was awesome & timeless in both his looks & acting. I say that KINDRED deserves a chance & vamps are always popular. Remember Adrian Paul from the HIGHLANDER? He played a vamp in a movie. He is gorgeous, is a BRIT & can act. If I had not given all the STAR TREK spin offs a chance, I would have missed how a series can grow & not lose the original intent & new creative special affects. Each actor brought something new to the table. All the original articles which I have read, including the fantastic interview by aol by MARK, indicated that he, the writers & the cast looked forward to the KINDRED continuing. Can we make MARK's wish come true? I do for one. As I indicated in my first comment that the webmaster of heckifiknow said that the KINDRED site received so many hits (of viewers on her site) that the site went in major outages because it couldn't handle the amount of viewers on this site. I say give KINDRED another chance to become KINDRED: "THE EMBRACE" REVISITED. If many are too touchy (and yes I miss MARK & he is not forgotten) about replacing the character of JULIAN, then a new PRINCE can be crowned. JULIAN can safely live a life of semi-normalcy in another part of the country living with CAITLYN as a vamp bride. LONG LIVE KINDRED. I my sincere thanks for all of you still keeping the KINDRED alive. If anyone needs info for the original site DEDICATED to the KINDRED feel free to contact me. Thank you. Pam

I don't think nobody will do a remake or a reboot of Kindred: The Embraced.
Mark Rein·Hagen and White Wolf were the creators of Vampire: The Masquerade,
Kindred: The Embraced is based on it. Rein·Hagen served as a writer and producer for TV series,
he sold his part of company in 2007, then left. In 2006 White Wolf merged with CCP.
After some problems in 2011 with CCP's main product, EVE Online, and community,
they decided to lay off 20% of their staff, they were mostly from their Atlanta studio,
in other words, White Wolf staff, Richard Thomas, who was the Creative Director,
in 2012 funded Onyx Path Publishing, now Onyx Path have the licensee to publish books
from White Wolf's intellectual properties and CCP still own them all.

My reason to think nobody will do a remake and/or a reboot, it's because they're working
on other things right know, Onyx Path are reviving Classic World of Darkness
(since 2004 there's a New World of Darkness) and publishing other game lines,
they recently published: Werewolf: The Apocalypse 20th Anniversary Edition,
which's part of Classic World of Darkness, same universe of Vampire: The Masquerade.

This is the complete list of future publications:
http://theonyxpath.com/from-gen-con-onyx-path-release-schedule-aug-201 3-aug-2014/

On the other hand, CCP are working on an MMO based on Classic World of Darkness,
I think anybody that just watched Kindred: The Embraced and likes vampires,
will like its trailer, well, here's what they called "Animatic Trailer":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEi7nQbNDog

In the end, I think if everything goes well with this MMO version and it has success,
in the future, they might make a TV series based on it, because CCP announced
they will make a TV series based on their other game, EVE Online,
and the TV series will be based on things that happened inside that game
and they were created by their players when they were simply playing that
.

World of Darkness MMO will be a sandbox too and in that kind of games,
you can openly interact with its world and other players and make your own stories,
although Vampire: The Masquerade books have a lot of content to make TV series and films.
I'll say that format of seasons which's used on US television it's ugly,
seasons never have impressive conclusions and stories are unfinished, which is simply bad,
because they can be cancelled any time. So if they'd make a TV series some day,
I just hope it'd be an independent project, like their EVE Online TV series it is
and they are financing the whole project with their own money
. So there's some hope.

I was a teenager when this show aired and absolutely loved it. Like you, I don't know if a remake would have the same spark. I do, however, think they could have continued the show without Mark Frankel. Sure, it wouldn't have been the same but I think it could have worked. I had thought that Lillie could have taken over as leader of the clans after the death of Julian (if they had written Mark's death into the show).

If you see a message from me, read my biography first before making a post. Thanks!

reply

With the way vampire stuff is today, they would need to make them sparkle in the sun, involve a werewolf vampire human love triangle, and cast all teenage characters.

I'm on it! Been working awhile on a new vampire series in this vein. I'm slashing off the unnecessary excess while incorporating TONS of wicked and fun new elements into my tales of vampire organized crime.

Keep your eyes open for "Blood Underground", it's gonna be HUGE!! Coming soon to bookstores near you!! =D

Yeah, that went well, Rob.

Did you even have an agent to represent you? Rhetorical question. No professional tries to reboot a fucking Syfy series.

reply

Instead of a 'reboot', maybe they should do a 'continuation' of Kindred. And I'd love to see Nicholas Lea as the new Prince of San Francisco. That could be how the series starts; the new prince settling into his position and all the political and physical troubles he has. (Who is Nick Lea? For those who may not know he was Cory Rains in the Highlander episode Money No Object. He was also Alex Krycek on X-Files and Victor Mansfield on Once a Thief.)

reply

You should visit the www.highlander-community.com.

There's a fanfiction writer there you'd like to meet, especially if you liked Cory Rains.

A continuation wouldn't hurt. It worked with the new Doctor Who and as has been stated, the love for vampires isn't dying out. If anything, with the success of True Blood and Vampire Diaries, all you need is good writers and actors as well as special effects. And the effects for Kindred weren't that bad when you consider the show was filmed in the mid-90's.

Just as long as they don't SPARKLE IN THE SUNLIGHT!

The author of THOSE BOOKS ought to be Gibbs slapped for that plot point alone!

reply

Personally I think there shouldn't be a reboot as much as a continuation, I did enjoy the series and thought there should have been more episodes, as I actually play the table top RPG this series is based off, maybe they should spice it up a little by having, the Malkavians thrown in, or maybe a battle with the Sabbat.

reply

If they do it should be on cable because it would die just like the original did if it was on network or basic cable

reply

I think that the only way this would work is if it were on cable and more loyal to the original source

reply

Thus reboot.

Also, instead of focus entirely on Vampire, they should also explore the world of darkness as a whole (even if only with small hint).

Racist Game = Pool. WHITE ball push COLORED balls back into holes. BLACK ball out = you win.

reply

This shows problem is it was ahead of its time...if you look at the teeny bopper offerings on hbo or the cw these days, a 'godfather with fangs' show would fit right in

reply

yup, so true.
this new sh!t is so lame and teenagery it makes me disgusted.
White Wolf's vampire the masquerade is easily the best vampire content in media, just no one has given a project the right budget and time to fully make the game/movie/tv show/novel.

all the games were partially finished and rushed out as quickly as possible and were still good games in their day. the tv show was good, but not many people watched it or even knew about it, me being one of the people who didnt know it was on tv.

now the World of Darkness MMO got cancelled or halted in Atlanta, so who knows.

reply

Not only that but the wrong network. I would never pitch a show to FOX. Even if they picked it up, FOX never gives a new series the opportunity to find its legs. If it doesn't perform fro the gate, they axe it. I can't tell you how many shows I tried to watch from the pilot airing, only to see then cancelled within three to six episodes. It's pathetic! And all FOX! They never consider it takes time to get going. It's takes time to win a new audience. Sometimes it's just a faulty time slot! He'll, Bonanza almost got cancelled very early on, but instead it was moved to a different day, where it thrived for 14 seasons!!

7I have been hoping for the longest for this show to be rebooted. I hope it happens soon.

Who knows? Maybe now that True Blood is ended someone will pick it up.

Their remaking everything why not this?

reply

Quick: name me ONE “teeny bopper offering” on HBO. Just ONE. And don’t name Euphoria. It is about teens, but teens are not its target market. Teeny bopper shows do not win Emmies.

Kindred tanked because it sucked. “Ohhhh. We’re SOOOOOO sexy!” In the real vampire mythology, the vamps cannot have sex nor produce children, no do they retain the memories of their body’s dead host. I take my knowledge from Catholic scholar Montague Summers text, The Vampire.

No one connected to Kindred ever read , or even heard of, that book.

reply

mos definitely...
it shouldnt be so soap opera-y either, i wasnt able to see the series while it was still airing, because i did not know it was made at the time, but i got to see re-runs of it after it was canceled and quite enjoyed it, the show was heading towards something intriguing and got cut off quite conveniently(if you ask me.)
however this show as well as more White Wolf's WoD content needs a movie or tv show that is done properly. because it is awesome content when it isnt obsessed with end of the world scenarios. a malkavian would detect a true gehenna coming a mile away anyways.
