Anyone ever notice how much louder the crowd cheers for Kel than Kenan?

In the intro?

You can tell it's mostly women screaming for him-- you think that ever bothered Kenan at all? Think he got jealous? I know I would, lol...

reply

because kel was funnier he was the Latka Gravas (Taxi) of the show, while kenan was more like Frasier, in comparison

and the ladies seem to think kel was pretty hot

reply

Not really I thought they were cheering for both of them.

reply

Yeah I noticed that too since the beginning of the series started.

I think it's due to the fact (or majority of girls' opinions) that Kel was better looking.

reply

I used to think the same, but there's an episode where Kenan introduces Kel, the crowd cheers, then Kel introduces Kenan, and the crowd cheers louder. No matter who's being introduced, the crowd always cheers louder the second time. It's most likely due to the crowd being fired up after cheering the first time.

I'm gonna briefly play Devil's Advocate here and say it had less to do with Kel being "cuter" and the fact he was the comic relief, where Kenan was the "straight man" of the duo. If you look back at the old Vaudeville duo Abbott and Costello (echoes of which ring true in Kenan and Kel), the audience seemed to cheer louder for Costello than Abbott, even though physically, Abbott resembled Kel and Costello resembled Kenan.
This is purely non-scientific conjecture on my part; A&C ran in the mid-50's while K&K ran in the mid-90's, so social mores and such were completely different. Still, the correlation had to be noted.

to the op lol yeah i always noticed that too. and i used to have a major crush on kel when i was younger. lol

reply

I'm going to play Devil's advocate, too, and suggest that it was all because Kel was introduced the second of the two. Seems like whenever a duo is introduced to an audience, the patterns is that the audience will cheer louder for the second one being introduced. One thing I DID notice is that the one time I saw Kenan being introduced second of the two, he was the one who got the louder cheers.

Half fan, half troll.

In the end, I think we know who won, as well as who is funnier.

I'm in the minority here but i always thought that Kenan was funnier

reply

To the OP, yup I noticed it all the time! LOL I like Kenan though too! :)

reply

OMG I didn't even see I had already commented on this before until just now. Oops! LOL

When I was younger, I used to think Kel was funnier. He's over the top and appeals more to kids. Kenan, IMO, always had more natural talent. He has great comedic timing and his facial expressions are priceless. Not trying to knock Kel but I can see why Kenan had a more successful career.

reply

Definitely agree.

Re-watching it, Kenan is funnier. Great reactions to incidents.

reply

^I've also noticed the same thing. Kenan was hysterical on this show. I appreciate him more after watching this as an adult. He was very talented, so was Kel, but Kel definitely appealed to kids more and was hot.

reply

I didn't think much of it I thought they were cheering for them both equally.
