Anyone know anything about a DVD release?

So, anyone know anything about a DVD release? I saw Cold Lazarus on tv and liked it a lot, (DVD release for Cold Lazarus?) so i´d like to see this prequel.

reply

I dont know about DVD release. :-)

I have it saved on vhs since they sent them years ago here in Sweden.
Karaoke is at least as good as Cold Lazarus IMO. But rather different.
I consider both to be classics. Tho they don't seem to be as well known as some of Dennis Potter's other stuff.

What with Karaoke/Cold Lazarus being a rare joint venture between the BBC and Channel 4, there'll probably be a lot of legal wranglings about copyright before it gets released. That's why they never surfaced on VHS either.

I wouldn't hold your proverbial breath, but it may happen eventually. C4 and BBC are, after all, apparent allies as they share a common enemy in ITV. They also co-operarated on other shows in the past - Like The Comic Strip Presents.....

reply

Aye, I think it was in Dennis Potter's will that both the BBC and C4 were to work on it together - I think when aired one episode was on the BBC and the next was on C4 (though that may have been just for Cold Lazarus). SO they're probably going to take ages to work out who can rape who for the profits first.

I got tired of holding my breath.

Go to http://www.mininova.org and download a copy for free, using BitTorrent. Quality is good as they were captured from digital broadcasts not so long ago.

You'll find other Dennis Potter plays and serials there, and also at http://www.thebox.bz (also free). Many of which it is impossible to buy.

thanks! i'm watching them right now. thanks you so much, i never would have checked mininova.org

another reason why BitTorrents are a great commodity.

reply

I'm asking the same thing - what a great mini that was, I loved it to tears.

Yeah, I remember watching a few episodes of Cold Lazarus a long time ago. So long ago I'd forgotten the name, which took quite a bit of searching to discover. Karaoke and Cold Lazarus badly need a DVD release.

reply

Both Cold Lazarus and Karaoke are available for sale. It's a password protected site, so can't give you more information than that; just poke around the internet and you're bound to come across them. (PM me and perhaps I can give you the details.)

I managed to get my hands on some independently released episodes. Just told pete I was pete and he sent them right over. Though, I'd still prefer to aquire a higher-quality official release eventually. Credits where they're due.

The BBC told me (regarding "Karaoke" and "Cold Lazarus") that "you can register your interest in being able to purchase these programmes by contact the Commissioning Editor at BBC Worldwide. The address to write to is:

"Commissioning Editor
BBC Worldwide Ltd
Woodlands
80 Wood Lane
London
W12 0TT".

You can pick up a decent copy here for £7.45:

Apparently this and Cold Lazarus are available on Virgin On Demand in the UK right now.

We don't have to suffer, we're the best batch yet.

I bought an unofficial DVD copy of Karaoke and Cold Lazarus (appears to have been taped off the Finnish network YLE) off eBay a little while back. The quality is superb in my opinion but obviously not of the quality of an official DVD release. But if anyone's interested, please let me know
