Why Jamie 'King'?

The show is called "The Jamie Foxx Show" so why is he called "Jamie King"?

Anyway..
I'm guessing they changed his last name to suit the show or avoid confusion.

my objection with him being Jamie King is the fact that King is his aunt's husband's last name, so why would it be his?

I wondered the same. His mom last name was King as well. Maybe junior was his daddy as well. Uncle-daddy. I have know sisters to marry another's ex husband.

Thanks for using common sense here for the original poster... I doubt they actually cared enough about the whole situation with Jamie's aunt and uncle's last names, and instead was dumb enough to not get the fact that Jamie's character didn't have the same name as him.
