1. I know Junior was working for his aunt/uncle but was it ever mentioned or shown to where his parents were? 2. How did Jamie finally hook up with Fancy? Rewatching episodes that are obviously prior to them dating and just can't see how she ended up finally given him a chance.
If Uncle Junior's last name is King then it's obvious how Aunt Helen got the name, but since Aunt Helen and Jamie's mother are sisters, how did Jamie get the name?
I don't think they ever alluded to Jamie being adopted by his aunt and uncle.
That is news to me that Jamie's mother was the sister of Helen ~ I assumed he was the nephew to Junior. I saw another poster claim that they mentioned the mother being a singer but was she ever shown (via an actress/character)? Or that of his father (via being mentioned or shown)?
Yes, initially his mother was played by Gladys Knight. They showed her in an episode when it became apparent that she put her career in front of Jamie when he was a child, leaving Aunt Helen to pick up the pieces. Later on the character was played by Jo Marie Payton (from Family Matters), when she brought Gerald Levert to meet Jamie, as she was planning to marrying him.
That is a good question about everyone's last name is King- never thought about it before. Either 1- Aunt Helen's maiden name is King (Helen King-King?!?) or 2- They did adopt,or were guardians of Jamie when his mother was on the road when he was a minor. It would have made it easier for medical care, tax returns.or maybe a perceived stigma about two seperate last names between guardian and minor.
Another possible scenario I thought of was that Aunt Helen and Jamie's mother were two sisters who married and/or had children with two brothers and Uncle Junior's brother was Jamie's dad.
"You'd hoped to meet a gentleman one day, well this is that"
I remember when Uncle Junior's old army buddy (Clifton Davis) was visiting who had a thing for her and continually called Helen, Helen Reese, and not King.
The show is inspired by Jamie's real life. He was raised in Texas by his adoptive grandparents. So the character might've been legally adopted by his aunt and uncle
