Why Doesn't he Have a car?

He is always running Everywhere. Every Episode i can see he runs for Miles and Miles Through streets and blocks and he is always nearly Late to save everything. Example. If he came 1 minute later, he'd be too late. Why the hell doesn't he just buy a car even if it's a really cheap bomb car and save all that running around and he can also save some time and get to places quicker? I don't get it. He could be saving more lives as his timing skills would be more efficient.

Gary is always helping people so even when he has something he gives it to someone or to charity. One time he was given an expensive sports car and he gave that away. He did buy a van for the restaurant later on and used it to go & save people. He also used Chuck's car in the beginning.

And in a big city like Chicago, finding a place to park would take him forever, most of the time!

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah i guess it makes sense when you factor parking in.

Lots of people in big cities don't have cars... for example, Phoebe was the only one with a car(her grandma's old cab) in Friends, until Monica kinda inherited the Porsche.

One of the highlights (for me at least) of living in Chicago was the ability to ditch a car (along with the cost of the car payment, insurance, and gas). It can be nice to have for grocery shopping (or if you are transporting something big like a TV), but otherwise it really isn't necessary and can be more trouble than it is worth.

To paraphrase an old Futurama joke, no one drives in Chicago. There is too much traffic.

Yeah Gary did have a car but he & Chuck both got a lot of tickets.

Ah, you guys are missing the point. Running is one things that Kyle Chandler does very well. He does it with such focus and grace.
Also, it creates tension, which is a must for good TV. When he catches his breath, so do we. Plus, he takes mine away

He did have a car, but he let Marissa borrow it for a blind date.

reply

Uhh... is that some kind of a bad pun?

reply

No . . . it was a good one.

reply

Nooo... THAT'S a good one!

♥ .... YESSSS!!!!

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"

He probably had a car but Marsha probably took it in the divorce.

Point is Gary was wrong to sell that car to a man he did not know the guy offered him a car saids thanks then one minute or 2 later saids "Na i will just trade it" were is the manners in people? Gary should have said like thanks or he should have said thank you but no thank you. I think that is what is wrong with people they do not know how to understand anymore.

I've no doubt he understood, and was grateful. But Gary being Gary, he figured somebody else was more in need than he was. (Somebody who wasn't running around like a crazy dude all the time. A lot goes into owning a car anyway- maintenance, gas, parking, finding an honest mechanic in a city that's apparently harboring a very healthy population of apathetic, self centered jerks. -Nothing against Chicago, of course, but we must admit there are a lot of times where we see people in this show that make us want to throw something.- When would he have the time or patience to deal with that?)

All in all, it's just one of those reasons he's the guy who gets tomorrow's paper delivered by a spirit cat and all. :-)
