Final 2 unaired scripts...someone help me elaborate some points?

I guess the big questions are:

1. Who is Layla? Why is she so important to Connors? - edit: It is her daughter.

2. Who killed Timmy and Quinn's father? Is Layla once again the connection here, or could it be other suspects (Geary, Quinn's Father's partner, or Dugan). We know the same person killed both men because the slugs from the gun were the same. Quinn's father asked questions about Timmy's murder and wound up dead. We know Dugan planted the gun for Jimmy to use and get busted on. Therefore, I have to suspect that Dugan, being in the fishing picture, had Timmy whacked in the pilot for getting to close to information on the whole crew of dirty cops and mobsters in the fishing picture. What connects all of this together? - edit: Geary kills Timmy (it is his voice in the car and not Jimmy because Jimmy shoots left handed - the killer shot right handed.)

3. What becomes of Danny and Elli's attempts to become a normal, clean, non criminal family? It seems that Danny is getting his GED and Elli is in rehab in "Icarus Ascending," but in "My Enemy's Enemy," it starts out with Rooney's PO being murdered by Jimmy, Dugan tipping off Collero (who does not tell Quinn) about the murder, and Elli attempting suicide. Their daughter is in social services and Danny and Elli are fighting in the hospital about boyfriends and drugs. Why must Jimmy feel compelled to kill the PO (who is very insignificant here)...it seems as if this was written much earlier seeing as this angle was played out in an earlier episode partially. Can someone shed light on this?

4. What happens to both Dugan's and Jimmy's criminal empires. It seems that Dugan is more powerful than Jimmy...he has higher connections and no cops on his back. Jimmy on the other hand has Quinn on him for his partner and father's deaths and the whole force on him because of Dugan (who has the mayor create the squad that won't leave Jimmy alone). Also, with both Danny and Connor's wearing wires, it seems as if Jimmy is screwed.

Overall, what is going on in "My Enemy's Enemy"? It seems that there were events that happened in between episodes that are not explained...some story lines , like the mayor and Layla, continued perfectly, but others completely changed - like Danny and Elli, his schooling being dropped and him being back in the union which was a huge problem in the previous few episodes. Additionally the freezer of hands is forgotten as well. The script says that it is episode 10, but it clearly is not. What's the deal?

1. I think so. My theory is that she is the daughter of Conners AND Quinn and Conners' gave her up for adoption or something like that. The girl obvious had a difficult life.

2. I think Geary and Dugan are connected and that's why Geary was so hell-bent on taking down Murtha. Plus it's obvious that someone in Quinn's unit is connected and it can't be Collero (not smart enough and too clean) because remember when Quinn's tape recorded interview with Lonnie the snitch disappeared?

3. I read that episode too. My copy is dated (is yours?) and it says something like "first draft" or "rough draft" on it and it dated like March or April of 1996. I think the show would've dropped the GED story.

4. I don't think they would've gotten anything. Remember how Murtha talked to Quinn about Conners? He obviously didn't trust her in stuff that involved Layla.

Question-- how did you learn that Layla is Theresa's daughter? The gap between the last aired ep and the two unfilmed scripts leaves a lot of questions up in the air. I'd love to find a place where those questions were answered.

Thanks.

In the scripts I have it never explicitly says that Layla is Teresa's daughter, it seems to imply that they are lovers. One scene describes Quinn watching the two of them having an argument and it says that it "looks like a lovers quarrel." However that seems like to obvious a twist for 'EZ Streets' plus given that Layla was so young (Kate Hudson was 17 when cast) and her resemblence to Teresa including a similar sounding voice I think it's a good theory.

So, I found my scripts last night so I reread them and want to revise some of my answers.

1. Yes again.

2. I think Geary, but I've always suspected that Dugan was behind it somehow.

3. My copy of "Icarus Ascending," is dated 10/31/96 and is the published draft while my copy of "My Enemy's Enemy" is referred to as a first draft and is dated 5/14/96. So I imagine that several plots from "My Enemy's Enemy" were dropped in later drafts.

So I change my answer; I think that Danny's GED story wasn't dropped it just hadn't been written yet. I also think they would've dropped him doing union work in "My Enemy's Enemy" in a later draft because besides in "Every Picture Tells a Story" he never did that sort of work. Remember the Piest (Father Mac) got him an office job that he quit because Quinn was harassing him at work. Then he went back to work for Murtha and if you recall in "A Ceremony of Innocence" Murtha gave him money (for Ellie's rehab that was promptly stolen) and told him if if he [Danny] took the money he had to carry a gun and pick up collections.

I also think they would've kept the rehab angle. I also got the impression that was why Janie was in social services so I'm guessing that would be in there as well.

4. Yes, Dugan is more powerful but he's obviously downsliding. Because I don't think he killed Quinn's partner I don't think Murtha of said anything on Conner's wire because that's all Quinn seemed to be interested in. The only thing Danny really had on Murtha was the shootout with the rasta's in "A Terrible Beauty" which he was involved in as well.
