Why wasn't Popejoy medically checked out after the parasite attack?

In the first episode, the alien parasite emerged from the dead farmer's mouth and half-entered Popejoy.

Even though he survived (later shot dead anyway), shouldn't he have been quarantined and medically checked out after such contact?

As should Loengard after the infected monkey attack?
