Copy of 'Cold Lazarus'

Is it on VHS or DVD? I saw it on a PBS channel and thought it was very good. I'd love to get it some how.

They should release it on DVD (along with Karaoke of course)

For what it is worth... I've wanted to get this on DVD for ages. Sick of telling people about it without being able to share it properly. Will contact this forum if I do discover it of course

thanks dude, I'll look for it on ebay. gotta see it again - I too am one of those people who keeps talking about it but have nothting to show! Hope it isnt' a dissapointment when I finally get a copy...

It would be nice to see Karaoke and Cold Lazarus officially released on DVD, but because they were made by both the BBC and Channel 4, it got itself caught up in an unforeseen legal quagmire over who owns the video rights. But, in the UK, seeing as 2 entertain video now releases works by the BBC and Channel 4, I'm sure that could help with a comprimise...

LIMITED TIME ONLY....

For UK viewers with Virgin Media, both Karaoke & Cold Lazarus are being shown on On Demand TV, or Channel 4's On Demand...see channel 4 web for details.......

Go to http://www.mininova.org and download a copy for free, using BitTorrent. Quality is good as they were captured from digital broadcasts.

You'll find other Dennis Potter plays and serials there, and also at http://www.thebox.bz. Many of which it is impossible to buy.

I find it unusual that these series are not available to buy or rent. It was Potter's last work, a statement and a testament to what he had learned in his life.

And you, lucky soul, you are in it. I'm no Q.C., but there is a point that this work is yours as you are in it. If you were to add a segment before the film explaining this is part one of a series on your role in the film industry and the impact it has had on your life. (Part two could be how you tired of waiting around and wrote your own script and went broke trying to produce, write and direct a film that never got made.)

In my mind simply this allows you to manufacture dvds and sell them under the fair use principal in law, that is, you are in the film.

I would charge only the actual cost of replicating the dvd... 2 or 3 Euros. I would charge 7 Euros shipping and handling fee. This, though not making you wealthy, would provide remuneration for your troubles, yet saving you from the odour of a pirate ripping off the BBC or its successors, as the case maybe.

It would be interesting to see who actually controls the rights for the series and why they have chosen to let it sit on a dusty shelf rather than to exploit their rights on cable, dvd or broadcast TV. Dennis Potter's other works seem readily available, why not these series?

The world is waiting for this series. Be bold. Seize the moment. Good fortune is attracted to heat and light created when something new is afoot.

This series and "Karaoke" were joint productions between the BBC and Channel Four, which may account for the lack of a commercial release (although they have been re-broadcast more than once).

On the other hand, it may just be that there's not that much market out there for Dennis Potter material. The BBC and LWT released a few DVDs of his material back a few years ago, but there's been practically nothing since then. LWT is finally coming out with Volume 2 this fall (supposedly) but the BBC hasn't shown any interest in releasing any additional DP material since they did "Brimstone & Treacle", "Casanova", "Blue Remembered Hills" and the "Nigel Barton" plays (in 2004 or 2005?).

I suspect that those titles weren't exactly top-sellers (I got a "promo" copy of Nigel Barton from an Amazon Marketplace seller for five pounds recently) so they probably don't have much incentive to release any more plays, especially ones that would require some sort of complicated licensing agreement with Channel Four.

The good news is that very nice digital copies of "Karaoke" and "Cold Lazarus" are currently available from any number of file-sharing sites. They look a helluva lot nicer than the VHS copies I taped off of Bravo in 1996, and they have all the swearing, boobs and butts intact.

I know I'm shouting, I like to shout.

Have just found both Karaoke and Cold Lazurus available for official download at the Channel Four "On Demand" website.

Both are available as a DVD box set, albeit with not a whiff of a bonus feature anywhere at all. not sure how long they have been out. I got mine from Amazon. Happy viewing!
