Why wasn't Alicia Silverstone in the t.v series??

Alicia did a good job of Cher in the movie, and a lot of the other characters e.g Dionne carried on in the t.v series. Does anyone know why Alicia didn't do the t.v series of Clueless?

She probably had other commitments, or else it didn't pay high enough. Or maybe she'd grown up significantly by then and seemed 'too old' to do it. Maybe she didn't want to become a 'typecast'? Quite honestly I don't know the actual reason. These are just a couple of possibilities. Maybe someone else knows though :).

Alicia Silverstone was also supposed to be the next big thing in movies and probably thought her movie career there would take off...ten years later she tries to star in an NBC sitcom to no avail.

Yes, Silverstone was supposed to be the new "It" girl. But after list of horrid misfires: "Batman & Robin," "Excess Baggage," etc, her entire career was hampered.

Yes, OK, she was terrible in "Batman & Robin" and forgettable in "Excess Baggage." And as bad as she was in "The Crush," the movie itself was far worse.

She bounced back with "Blast From The Past," but after that and her NBC sitcom was dropped, her career has completely fizzled.

The poor thing peaked.

(sigh) It's sad. Hollywood has pretty much forgotten all about her and has moved on to fresher meat. Unfair, isn't it?

She had a production deal for a few million dollars with Sony Pictures, including her being a producer.

She was probably busy or didn't find the idea of being in the series promising enough. I think Rachel Blanchard did a pretty good job though.

in those times make tv wasn exactly glamorous to movie stars like alicia silverstone, after big hit shows like FRIENDS, SEINFELD , SOPRANOS and several quality series in tv the tide is turning now find a good spot in tv its hard, if was today i'm certain that alicia would agree with being in the show

Because she used to star in A-list movies. Why would she sign on to a sitcom on the wb or upn or whatever

I've had a feeling for a while Alicia Silverstone really didn't want to act much anymore. I think she got sick of it.

She was still acting at the time this show was on.

She made a comment at the time the series was announced in an interview by saying: "TV is not really my thing but it's a good concept. I hope it works."

In the trivia section on IMDb, Alicia was offered the role for Cher but, she turned it down to focus on her movie career.
