Something like the Peter/Assumpta storyline?

Hi guys,

I love Series 1-3 of this show -- funny writing, great characters, but I love it primarily because of the tortured Peter/Assumpta storyline. It's the driving part of the show for me, and I get a little impatient during the Series 3 episodes where Assumpta and/or Peter are absent. I was wondering if anyone knew of any TV shows, movies, or books that have a similar storyline of a priest encountering a crisis of faith due to love. I find it incredibly fascinating. All those kinds of "forbidden romance" stories (priests, teachers and students, etc. etc.) are my favorites.

I'm already aware of the majesty that is The Thorn Birds (the book and the miniseries), so no need to point me in that direction!

Also, I read somewhere on this board of an ep where one of the later BallyK priests gets kissed or something, and that a BallyK priest just-barely-kinda starts a romance with a new character. Can you help me out by filling me in on this -- the episodes where these things occur or whatever? I'm not sure I want to watch all of Series 4-6, but I might watch these episodes on Netflix Instant Play if they sound interesting.

Thanks for all your help!

In the new series of V there seems to be a little thing between two of the main characters, one of which is a priest. It's not the best tv show in the world, but I like it :)

Nice Dr. Strangelove quote btw :D

There is the early 1960s movie, The Cardinal, directed by Otto Preminger, starring Tom Tryon and Romy Schneider. Tom Tryon was a priest from a working class family in Boston. At one point in the movie, he takes a "leave of absence" to consider whether he has a true calling or not. While serving as a teacher during this time, he meets a beautiful young woman and they fall in love. Instant crisis. It's based on the book of the same name. Loved both.

Yes "The Cardinal" which is aired at least once a year on Turner Classic Movies here in the states.

Very good film, shows the life of a young man from new priest to becoming Cardinal.
