y was this show universally hated?

From what i see Arliss is mostly hated by everyone except for lyk the diehard fans

I read on wikipedia tht critics trrashed this show and the only reason it was kept alive was from robert Wuhl's (aka Arliss Michaels) friendship with HBO execs... it has a 7.0 rating... for a movie thts good but for a tv series thts mediocre

i signed on here thinking this show would have lyk an 8.1 something lyk tht

from what i see from the reruns on espn classic this was a pretty decent show

good characters nd cameos from sports ppl

its unique... y didnt anybody lyk it?

This show was funny whether you were a diehard sports fan or not. I thought it was a good show. It definitely doesn't deserve any hating.

If the article is quoting specific ratings I'd question it's authenticity. HBO generally doesn't release their own TV ratings. They don't have to because they don't have paid advertisers like basic cable and the networks.

I have no idea why this show wasn't liked, I mean it's not a serious drama and shouldn't have been criticized as such--it was a very funny show that is definitely one of my favorites. My room mate likes this show. Even my ex girlfriend liked this show. It has a pretty broad appeal and I'm VERY glad it's still on ESPN classic..I tivo it every night

I don't even like sports and I liked this show. Used to watch it on HBO back when they still had new episodes of it on. I cancelled my HBO shortly after they stopped showing reruns on one of the extra hbo channels.

I just picked up the best of dvd for 3 dollars and big lots and remembered how much I loved the show.

It was a cheap funny show that attracted a very loyal following, HBO like Robert Whul and they had subscribers that only bought the net for that sow, 7 seasons 10 episodes a year, cheap way to keep viewers, and have another oiginal show, plus they have been able to sell reruns year after year, few of their shows until recently have had that luck
