S9-E16 Brotherly Love...

Everybody knows that Kevin Kinkirk, Ruthie's Husband is a Police Officer and would be armed. So in this episode He is confronted by a bunch of hysterical nonsense starting with Eric Camden concerning His service weapon. Even His Wife, who should have a better understanding refers too Him as a 'Gun Freak'. Many episodes strain credibility but this was just P.C. nonsense.

reply

P.C. or not: It was nonsense. Kevin is a cop, and since the series does not take place in Britain, he has a gun.
It would have been much better if they had showed the gun issue from both sides. It comes with dangers, but it also has its advantages. It's a personal decision whether or not to own a gun.
Eric was being a schoolbook example of what not to do if you suspect there's an intruder in the house. He wanted to confront an intruder, probably a hardened criminal, and if so, possibly armed himself, with a silly frying pan? Either play possum or use a firearm if you decide to confront the intruder. Make up your mind.

You may cross-examine.

rosarypliers; Good points. The Police advise that you move to a secure location, call them, then if you have the capability and have a thorough knowledge of arms be able to use them from a defensive position. You do NOT go out hunting for trouble, best to avoid conflict if possible. Pulling the trigger on someone is NOT as easy as some People believe.

In a post WWII analysis the U.S. Army found that even after Basic Training and Infantry School eight out of ten Men found it impossible to kill in a combat situation. It took extensive combat experience to bring the Men up to standard.

In my life (now 65) I have had three attempted home invasions. Have not needed to pull the trigger yet, hope to keep that record intact.

That's the issue 7th Heaven has... The show looks at issues through "good/bad" "and "black white" view, and never meddle within a gray area...

While I do believe there is a gun epidemic in the country (times are different from the 1700's, when the 2nd Amendment came into creation...), I still agree with you that owning a gun can be dangerous AND beneficial. Like many will say, if you own and use a gun, you must respect the gun (as opposed to playing around with it)

It does make a lot of sense that Kevin, a COP, would have a gun and will pull it out IF he believes there was an intruder in his house. If he brandished an assault rifle because a mouse was scampering across the bedroom, THEN Lucy would have the right to dub him a "gun nut". But that wasn't the case...

I can understand Eric not being keen on the issue (an episode in a season before had a kid shoot him in the shoulder) but to judge people on gun ownership doesn't seem right. Like you said, they could've both sides of the issue. They don't have to promote gun ownership, but they don't need to preach "GUNZ R EVIL!!!"

For a show that's about a Christian family, this family sure does preach and judge a lot... Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't someone in the Bible say, "Judge not, that ye be not judged"?

Thank you and goodnight!

Blah-7; We do not believe there is a 'gun epidemic' in this Country. There is a breakdown of civility and morality. When some believe that some laws like those on Illegal Aliens can be ignored and create Sanctuary Cities which promote violence. Then point at others and blame them for there problems that is the height of hypocrisy. The same goes for creators of failure social welfare programs. It is always everybody else's fault. They never look in the mirror and explain why it failed, they just want more of the same.

Hypocrisy is what Eric is a example of. He does not want Gun in the house because of its violent implications. Then goes to confront a alleged intruder with a frying pan. Not the most apt choice of weapon. While the intelligent thing to do was retire to a safe room and inform the Police. Which He already had in his home.
