Xiu Xiu unable to return to Chengdu

Do you think Xiu Xiu should have made a stronger attempt to try to go back home to Chengdu if she really wanted to?

At 1:11 into the movie about the 2/3 point, Lao Jin offers to take her to Hong Yuan County and from there, she can take a bus. But Xiu Xiu simply rebukes him by saying the he knows nothing, and explains that if she returns back to Chengdu without documentation she can't do anything anyways.

But given the fact that Xiu Xiu was so homesick, then don't you think that it was still worth a try and there's always the possibility that cultural revolution would end, as it did in 1976. So I think the possible advantages of going home would still exceed those of being a whore in Tibet.
