Question about the men who see here *SPOILERS*

My friend let me borrow this film. I thought it was great but my friend brought something to light that I didn't notice. He said that in once scene a man visiting the girl had a old dirty shoe. If he worked for the government they would have issued him new shoes and by this point in the movie lowerclass men from all over the countryside were coming to see her.

Was she exposed to any man who could tell a lie, or is my friend wrong?

reply

I thought that since she was so desperate to get home that she just believed anyone who would tell her they could help her...she really had no reason to believe any of them were from the government, other than that they said they were.

It’s ironic that in this age of “tolerance” we are the most afraid of offending people.

reply

yeah, the men heard of her, and when word gets around everybody attempts to get in on the action. The film does not paint a very nice picture of the morality of men, but it is a beautiful piece of art anyway.
