Music by Ryuichi Sakamoto

It appears that no soundtrack album has ever been released.

The main themes and much of the incidental music is by Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Does anyone know if the 'Wild Side' score is available on any of his recorded output?

AFAIK, only one track is out, a slinky, jazzy-styled number called Hotel Room. It's a great track, and it actually led me to check out the film's imdb entry. You can find it on a CD called UF (Ultimate Film), one of many (perhaps too many) Sakamoto compilations but certainly one of the more worthwhile ones.
It would be great to get the whole soundtrack one day...

Sakamoto does the music for only the so-called "Director's Cut". The original music was done by Jon Hassell (a genius). The studio didn't like the music (because they are morons) and wanted Jon fired, but Cammell (the director) stuck up for Hassell's music. The studio then took the movie away from him firing Cammell and Hassell. A few hours later, Don Cammell shot himself once in the head, and died forty minutes later.

Ironically, the Hassell soundtrack only appears on the studio cuts of the film (the original Artisan release and the two Canadian, Lionsgate releases - the 18 A version and the non-18 A version). To get the director's cut an editor used a tape Cammell had left behind as a guide, but they used Sadamoto's replacement soundtrack. Therefore, there is no true "Director's Cut" of this film. When they finally pair Hassell's score with the edit of the film the director wanted, THEN they'll have a Director's Cut.

No offense to Sakamoto, whose score is actually not bad, but he cannot hold a candle to the unmitigated brilliance of Jon Hassell's work on this film. I have checked all of Jon's published works, and the music from this film doesn't not appear anywhere... now THAT is something I'd like to hear.
