he said himself that he was a changed man because of lucy. would her leaving him cause him to go back to the way he was? he wasn't perfect, but he seemed to be improving..
shareI actually think Peter did open his eyes a bit more. Seeing how happy his brother was he noticed a nice girl in his life he'd not seen before and found his own "Lucy."
I think that could have made a fun sequel...Lucy trying to help Peter win the heart of some office girl he suddenly noticed...

shareI think Peter opened his eyes up a little more too. You never got the impression that Peter was a *bad* person, just perhaps a little too self-absorbed. That he kept a good relationship with Jack and Lucy afterwards that was strong enough for him to talk to Lucy about her relationship with his brother sort of speaks of a man who might be looking for guidance about his own life.
I think it also helps that when Peter and Lucy talked after he woke from his coma, and she was telling him about little things he did, like giving up his seat on the train for others, it might have helped make him a little more aware of 'little things matter'--after all, he was hearing from Lucy (who supposedly was in love with him and was going to marry him) that she had 'fallen in love' with him because she saw him do these little things for other people. Whereas Ashley only seemed to care about the material things he could give her.
Peter may have 'lost' Lucy, in the romantic sense, but I think she gave him a lot to think about, about what he really wants a woman to see in him.
After Lucy confesssed, Peter ran home and hired someone to clean his carpet. He resumed his life as a putz.
shareHe may have improved his life. And evidently he maintained a relationship with Lucy and his brother Jack because at the end Lucy says that Peter asked her when it was that she fell in love with Jacks. That's when she responds with "it was while you were sleeping."
