With the exception of Dawns brother and a couple of others...

Everyone else in this film should have been strung up and flogged with a razor studded whip!

that made absolutely no sense at all.

It means that with the exception of her brother and a few others, everyone else were pieces of @#!$ towards her. She never did anything bad enough to deserve their disgusting behaviour!

exactly, but no need to get violent. Won't solve anything. I also disagree about her brother. He did treat her like crap at times, but I suppose that was more like sibling rivalry. I think the only ones that didn't hate her were her little sister, her dad, and especially her neighbor friend.

Missy probably didn't hate her but she was a spoiled brat who got her own way too much. Dawn, like any other child tends to be unwise enough to blame the wrong person as she wouldn't dare lash out at the real culprit for Missy's brattiness, the mother.

The father was a weakling so it didn't matter that he didn't hate her as he was useless in the protection department.

As for her brother, he was a nerd like she was, but had more backbone and self-esteem so he was determined to succeed in his lifes plans in spite of his status. He even gives Dawn some tough-love advice that since things won't get better in later years she should just suck it in and be like him.

come to think about it. her bro wasn't too bad & treated her decent. her parents were worse than the kids at school.

I totally agree. If you haven't seen Palindromes then SPOILERS During Dawns funeral it shows that Mark was the only one who actually turned out to be halfway decent,he showed genuine remorse over Dawns death and was the only one in the film to give Dawns cousin Aviva sound advice or show concern for her well being, even after Missy accuses him of molesting her daughter he still stands out as one of the only decent characters in a film full of awful awful people
