Everyone in that movie was lucky Dawn was a girl...

If it had of been a boy I'm certain he would have taken a gun to school and gone 'Columbine' on everyone.

Lol Kinda funny, but yeah I agree. They're very lucky!

IDT it would have made too much of a difference, if it was the same film only with a boy lead. Like Dawn was the character who mostly kept her feelings bottled up, but I do think that IF Dawn HAD brought a gun to school it would have definately been knew, I mean I can't think of a school shooting where the gunman was a female.

*Hep Alien* 4 ever!

I got curious and found in 2 minutes on Google. 8th grade girl shoots another student at school over teasing. Didn't kill her, but still.

Eh, she was seriously considering smashing her sister over the head with a hammer (well I dunno how serious, but she at least had violent thoughts). Are you suggesting most girls wouldn't do anything like that? They have committed school shootings before, albeit less common. Plenty of boys undergo similar treatment and they don't go all Columbine on everyone...plus i notice Dawn didn't actually get beaten up (maybe roughed up a little), because she was a girl no doubt, whereas even Ralph got beaten up and probably also bullied a lot and he didn't bring a gun to school and shoot everyone up.

I don't know if you meant to, but I realized something from reading your post.

I did agree with the OP that it is fortunate that Dawn was a girl because she might have reacted very differently, if she was a boy.

Reading your post though about Ralphie getting beaten up, made me realize that both genders probably react differently because bullying works for them differently.

Make bullying tends to be much more direct and physical, that is why more "physical" and violent reactions, like school shootings, tend to be committed by males. Whereas with females, it's more internal, psychological, and difficult to detect. Therefore, the bullies victims tend to internalize their feelings and sometimes tend more to strive for acceptance than vengeance. There are exceptions, of course, but I think the former is more common, that's why acts of obvious retaliation aren't heard from as often with females.
