There was a movie done before the remake

I remember a movie in the last 80s-early 90s that was a B-movie with the same name that was done before the remake. I wish I could remember the exact name. But, I remember seeing the movie on VHS around 1988-1990. Same basic premise of the movie.

Could be Mosquito (1995) or Skeeter (1993)

This film is a remake of the same titled film from 1959
