Kenneth amazingly manipulative...(SPOIL ERS)

I find it truly amazing with the lengths Kenneth went to to manipulate Savannah into having/continuing the adulterous relationship with him. He spends much time trying to convince her that he truly loves her and that he really wants to marry her. What really blew my mind is all the calls to her mother. These were obviously intended to really convince her that he was sincere in the things he was telling her, all the stories, all the excuses, even when she heard conflicting information from other people or in conversations she overheard.

When Robin told Savannah her story, it really made her start to think seriously about what she was doing, what she wanted and and caused her to really listen to the words that were coming out of his mouth, both when he spoke to her and when he spoke to his wife on the phone. It was pretty clear that he was nowhere near ready to leave his wife and daughter, and realizing this, she was not comfortable filling the role of "other woman". She wanted to be the wife, and she realized she would rather be alone if she could not have a man for herself alone.

Then to have Kenneth call up her mother and cry on the phone? I was laughing when her mom called and said, "He's a good man, he's just in a bad situation!" For her mother to be either 1) fooled by Kenneth or 2) so desperate for Savannah not to be alone that she has rationalized that Kenneth is not as bad as he obviously really is, is funny/sad. I was pleased to see Savannah set her mother straight and reassure her that she would not only be okay on her own, but she could be happy. Kenneth should cry, he will no longer get to have his cake...and eat it too.

Kenneth was a loser. I didn't like him one bit. He was so insincere. And what was that with the "she thinks she's having a little sister" thing? So his wife was pregnant, again? He deserved that gin and tonic thrown on his lap! :)

Most definitely. I don't know if his wife was really pregnant or if he just made that up. It's pretty clear he was just stringing Savannah along for as long as she would let him. There are good men out there and he is not an EXample of one of them.

Kenneth was such a pig but 98% of the men in the film are.

The only good men in the movie (not counting John Jr. or Tarik) was Marvin & Michael. I included Michael because he seemed to really care for Robin, but he didn't meet the physical expectations she had like Russell did.

Speaking of Savannah's mom, I know she desperately wanted Savannah to have a man in her life (especially which man) & that she doesn't want her daughter to end up alone like her. Why is that? The movie never explained what happened to Savannah's father. Did he die & left her mom a widow? Did he divorce her for another woman (assuming they were ever married)? The movie never went into that.

lol!! I was thinking the same thing. He used that "she thinks she's having a little sister" thing as a soft and "not-so-serious" way of telling Savannah that he got his wife pregnant. She saw through that when she sarcastically said "A baby!?!"
