A Ghoul? Whats the Point?

Okay, he turns the dude into a ghoul, but whats the point of him deteriorating and falling apart? What help is a ghoul if he cannot keep his body parts intact? I didnt get that whole sub-plot.

I never understood that either. Poor Kadeem was falling apart...what use was he to Max in that condition?

reply

I agree. Kadeem's character seemed to just get in the way but I will say that for every Dracula flick I have ever watched, Drac has always had a side kick as in this case referred to as a goul. They seem to serve no purpose other than to just be around to make Drac look good. They are flunkies I suppose.

Wow...talk about overanalyzing...I think the point of it was because it was freakin' hilarious when all of his appendages started to fall off.

reply

It was for help during the daytime and he needed someone to pass his vampirism on to when he died.

Well, if that's what Won-Won thinks, you'd better do it then. SLL crew rulz

reply

that's right.

the falling apart thing seemed to be a side effect he couldn't control. and if vampirism lives on through Julius, it was a small price to pay.

i think its just easier to control them if they are Ghoul and under the blood of their master. rather than human and free thinking.

The reason they put it in the movie was for comedic affect. But Vampires need Ghouls to protect them in the day time when they sleep. To run errands and do other things when its sunlight. I ghoul could fall apart like that because the body is slowly dying. In other movies when a human is being turned they kill the body but it's done so quickly you don't see this decay. Maybe you could also think of the Ghoul as a larva stage between human and Vampire.

im not sure exactly why he called him a ghoul, a ghoul is a being that digs up graves and eats corpses. that's at least the definition. I always took a ghoul as a creepy ghostlike thing.

anyway I remember this character grossed me as a kid. in fact, I haven't seen the movie since I was a kid, I remember thinking this character was gross. I think he was really kinda hyper right? and his eyeball at one point fell out and then someone stepped on it? that's all I remember, going on memory but damn its been YEEEARS since Ive seen this. gonna have to rent it again.

Which was missed on me too. I kept wondering why he was deteriorating. And scene at the end with the ring was confusing also.

True, its a comedy. I think we all understand that. No one is taking it seriously. My initial query was what good as a ghoul if their body cannot stay intact? If a ghoul is a vampire's human protector then what good can he be if he can be taken out so easily?

Julius was basically the Renfield to Maximillian's Dracula.

In my humble opinion, he turned him into a ghoul so he could watch over him, etc. during daylight hours like someone else said. Also, the decaying is meant to be funny, and at the end, when he puts the ring on, he turns into Mr. Suave! I loved that part at the very end!

The modern ghoul of the american negro is a lesser breed of what manner of man could have been pledged to vamp in more truer times.
