It's on the new King of the Hill blu-ray disc.

I discovered accidentally while looking to see what extras were included with KotH.

Watching Soderbergh's comments after the film, I was glad to see he feels about his film the same way I did viewing it. The original filmed version of this tale, Criss Cross (which he does not mention) is better. It drags and is muddled, whereas CC is faster paced and crisp. He speaks highly of his actors, but it must be said Alison Lohman is no Yvonne DeCarlo. (To be fair, DeCarlo would have been totally out of her element in a film like The Spitfire Grill.). The script was his adaptation of Daniel Fuchs' adaptation of the original novel; he'd have been better off making fewer changes to Fuchs'. The film just looks and feels to experimental, although I think in his comments he's a little harder on it than I would be. I've seen much lamer remakes.

Just got it from my library -- gonna watch both tonight. Haven't seen King since it first came out, and I've never caught Underneath.

Soderbergh's interviews are always great, too. He speaks so passionately about movies and film making. If you get a chance, listen to his Catch-22 commentary with Mike Nichols. He also does a great one with Neil LaBute for sex, lies, and videotape.

* So, have to say I thoroughly enjoyed The Underneath. Pace was just right, good atmosphere, stylish...Allison Elliot's performance was the only weak spot for me. Soderbergh was apparently in a pretty bad place when he made the film, which I think has a lot to do with why he doesn't care for it. I was surprised to learn he was supposed to direct Quiz Show -- when that fell through he made this.

King of the Hill was as good as I remembered, and looks absolutely incredible in hi-def. In the interview with SS, he actually thought the film looked a little too beautiful. He said if he could do it again, he would make it a lot grittier looking. Hard to believe it cost only $8m (The Underneath $6.5)

Thanks for the recommendation. I have yet to see Catch-22, and it's been a long time since sl&v.
