Fort Chaffee, Arkansas

Parts of this good movie was filmed at Fort Chaffee and in and around Fort Smith, Arkansas. I saw the filming of the opening, where the boy is running through the field at the bi-plane. That took place next to Highway 71, just across from what is now Riley Farms housing subdivision.

Most of the hangar, flight line and runway scenes were filmed at Davis Field in Muskogee, OK. the old runway they used is about 100 yards behind where my old OK National Guard unit was located (Troop E 145 Cav). In a couple of the scenes you can actual see the building in the background.

Some of the cast came down to a club that used to be in Muskogee called the Warehouse. I don't remember who all was there. I know Malcolm Jamal Warner and Christopher McDonald were a couple of them. Christopher McDonald was a DICK, but the rest of them seemed pretty nice.

As for Fort Chaffee, I spent many of summers sleeping in those HOT-ASS barracks that they used in the movie. These were same barracks that were used in Biloxi Blues (the movie with Mathew Broderick). These are some of the only free standing WWII barracks left.

I know its been over a year since this was posted but I had to respond . I remember going to The Warehouse during the filming of this movie . As luck would have a friend of mine was one of the waitresses . She came up to me and said "Hey , I'm gonna put the movie stars by you guys. Ok?". Like I was gonna say no , lol . Anyway, she pulled up a couple of tables and a few minute later in walks Christopher MacDonald and Daniel Hugh Kelly . MacDonald sat by himself away from everybody while Danny sat at the table right next to me . He pulled out a cigarette and asked me for a light . I grabbed my friends lighter and handed it to him , he ended up talking with us the rest of the night . I thought it was really cool for a celebrity like that to basically hang out with us and not have the celebrity attitude .
