Then who the hell cares about Michelle quitting after Tommy is pestering her about the files? Is her quitting the probably now defunct Callahan Auto Parts a big deal?

I don't think the employees knew yet. Tommy, Richard and that other guy knew but thst was it.

I think it's more about Tommy still believing he can save the factory, or him not yet wanting to face the reality of the closure. In his mind, in either scenario, the factory is still viable.
