Thought the movie was ok. I feel like the story was good and it would of been better if it was a serious murder thriller type instead of a black comedy. The comedy aspect just put me off. Kidman was smokin hot in this though! that was a plus.
shareI believe it worked well - and even best - as a comedy. First-degree murder is kind of absurd in the first place, especially when it's done for the most arbitrary of reasons, so it's hard to say how a filmmaker is supposed to present that seriously. Besides, even if the movie had tried to be serious, it would have been really uncomfortable and not at all fun, since we'd feel pity for Suzanne and fear and sympathy for her victims.
shareThe story was already done as a serious murder story. It's called "Murder in New Hampshire." You know, the Pamela Smart case, the 22 year old school teacher who was sleeping with some of her male students, and manipulated them to murder her husband.
The black comedy absurdist take on the same story was perfect and totally worked, thanks to the script, direction and choice of casting for all characters involved.
